About Me

My photo
I am a 42 year old woman that is about as happy and content as one person can be. My husband of 21 years and our 15 year old daughter live on five and a half acres out in the country. We moved from the city four years ago and never looked back. I homeschool our daughter. We also love our animals. Our daughter has a miniature horse and two rabbits. We also have a border collie, two cats (again), two pot belly pigs, four peafowl, three emus, 2 llamas and an undetermined number of chickens, lets just say ohhh about 200. I have many breeds, from layers to fancy chickens. I love poultry shows, I love fowl in general as I have come to find out through having more than just chickens. Chickens will always be my first love though. I do show some of my birds occasionally.

Tuesday Morning, Had Enough

Animal control is on the way today. I have had enough of the neighbors crappy little dog. I am not even going to talk to them about it because I have been there and done that and it does no good.

This morning I had a few chickens out in the front, as usual I sent Tip out to push them back through the fence. No big deal. Except that dog was in the yard too. It was intently sniffing something on the ground. I am near sighted and cannot see far away, so I couldnt see what it was so interested in. I was afraid it was one of my girls, dead.

Tip was herding in chickens and I was headed out to see what that dog was sniffing. Tip caught sight of the dog and started after it. I told her no, to come and stay with me. She didnt want to, but her years of training with me paid off and she stayed with me. I couldnt find anything on the ground. The little dog had retreated back to the next door neighbors yard and was barking and acting like it was going to come after us. Tip wanted to engage, but I gave her firm command to stay with me and she did.

I am not going to live like this, again. We paid over 12,000 dollars to have the back three acres fenced in. That should be enough I would think, to deter dogs from coming from the back of our property to the front. He has to travel to get here!

I will fill the animal control officer in, show him my one remaining shoe, Petes butt, and tell him what happened this morning.

I want him to explain to those people that they have ripped up a show chicken, and my shoes, and if it doesnt stop I want compensation for my damn pain and suffering and worrying and damages. I know that sounds like a line, and it is, but I want them to know I MEAN IT.

If this continues I will have to do what I have to do to rid myself of this pest, and I will. I have before when pests threatened my birds, and I will do it again.

Okay, enough about that, I will update once the officer has come and gone.

Now, on to chickens. :) Yes that puts a smile on my face. I am glad everyone enjoyed the videos and the pictures. I do enjoy showing off my girls and guys.

I thought I would post a video of Hank crowing today. He is such a handsome man and such a leader of the flock. He patrols his area constantly and keeps things in line. I like a man that can keep things running out back without being aggressive and mean. He is a sweetheart.

I'm sorry to hear the dog problem has come to this, damn irresponsible owners!  I don't blame you one bit, perhaps a talk from the dog officer will make them keep their dog at home.  I am anxious to hear what happens.  Hank is a doll....I love how he puts his whole heart into his crowing, boy he really opens his mouth and pushes that crow out!!!!  Great video....I hope things get better with the dog after today.  I'm sorry now I found your shoe amusing.

You know it's sad because it's that dogs owners fault and because of their negligence as a pet owner this dog may suffer...I don't blame you AT ALL because even tho I'm an animal lover I will protect MY own animals before others that's for sure but I just wish they would give the dog to someone who will spend the time with it to train it as you did with your dog!  I'm sure if the dog went through some training it would learn to stay in it's own yard.  Heck buy a shock collar for it and spend a few hours watching him and training him!  Grr some people!!  I say people who don't want to take the time should NOT have animals!   It's that simple!

Ok by the way I loved the video again!!  And so did Nic :)  You cheered my sick little boy up ;)

I should have this on my alarm clock or for a ring tone.  I don't blame you a bit about calling animal control.  The dog has no better sense because it wasn't taught any.  Some people just should not own animals.  Pitiful.

People are amazed when they call me on the phone and I'm on the porch or something that they can hear roosters crowin in the background.  -  Barbara
