About Me

My photo
I am a 42 year old woman that is about as happy and content as one person can be. My husband of 21 years and our 15 year old daughter live on five and a half acres out in the country. We moved from the city four years ago and never looked back. I homeschool our daughter. We also love our animals. Our daughter has a miniature horse and two rabbits. We also have a border collie, two cats (again), two pot belly pigs, four peafowl, three emus, 2 llamas and an undetermined number of chickens, lets just say ohhh about 200. I have many breeds, from layers to fancy chickens. I love poultry shows, I love fowl in general as I have come to find out through having more than just chickens. Chickens will always be my first love though. I do show some of my birds occasionally.

Questions Answered and Some Chicken Show Prep

Photobucket

Good late morning! I have been catching up on a few folks journals this morning. I am pacing myself like Nelishia says so I dont get too overwhelmed. This graphic above is one given to me by Gayla. Thankyou Gayla!

I wanted to answer some questions asked to me lately. If I forgot one, please ask me again and I will be sure to answer you.

Oh yes! I do fry, bake, boil chicken. What my chickens don't know won't hurt them. I mean how else am I to make chicken and dumplins! A southern gal has to make chicken and dumplins in the winter months right? ;)

The show I am going to February 16th is at the Coweta County Fairgrounds in Newnan, GA.

Tomatillos...I had never had them up until Super Bowl when Donna brought them. I had seen them in the grocery store, but didnt know what you would do with them.

Turns out they seem to be little tiny green peppers I guess. She cut the tops off and stuffed them with cream cheese, mixed with grated cheddar cheese, corn, and probably other things I didnt know about...but they were good! They taste like green peppers to me. Just finger size instead.

The recipe for that buffalo wing sauce dip...she told me there is no exact science to it. She said she kind of made hers up as she went along because when she tried someone elses she just got the ingredients and kind of did it.

First you cook chicken breasts, then shred up the meat. You add buffalo wing sauce to the chicken and mix it all in real good. Then she said she mixed grated cheddar cheese and cream cheese and spread it over the layer of chicken in a pan. Then she sprinkled a layer of cheese on top. All you have to do before eating is heat it up in the oven at about 350 for about twenty minutes. Good stuff!

I think I do have the McAffee antivirus thing. Ian keeps up with all that usually and I know we have some thing that is with AOL that pops up before I can sign on that scans for anything out of the ordinary.

I made an entry on Wordpad when the computer was down for internet access. After reading over it I decided not to post it as it seemed so down in the mouth. It just seemed blah, because I was blah, because I couldnt get online. So I decided to revise it here now. :) I like to try and keep things lively, funny and upbeat you know.

Aw heck this entry is getting too long...I will do another on my chicken show prep.

Cute graphic. Those chicken breast sounds delicious. Macafee should have caught that problem but sometimes things do slide through. Wish I were able to go to that chicken show then I could meet you. Hope you bring home some ribbons. Hugs, Helen

I have decided to start pacing myself when I get behind too.  I stress myself out worrying about catching up - take your time...we're not going anywhere!!  :)
I've never had chicken & dumplings!  We have it in some resturants around here (I doubt it is authentic) but I have never tried it.  Good luck with your show preps!

Gayla always has the coolest graphics.  I never seem to get completely caught up on journals.  By the time I do, there's so many more so I delete the ones by the same author and read them, and for the ones who haven't reposted I keep them too.  Shortens the amount in my inbox and I don't feel too overwhelmed.  Otherwise, I'd never get through it all.  Don't have time to read two hundred alerts.

Glad you're back online.  I, for one, missed you very much.  That food sounds so good!!!!!

I love the pretty chicken graphics. I just have to tell you about the very large picture of a rooster someone once made for my sister. It was on wood and the rooster was made of all kinds and colors of beans and I don't remember what else. when she got tired of it she gave it to me. After a few years one of her daughters wanted it so I gave it to her. From there I don't know where it went but it was unusual and pretty. Paula

This may sound awful at first but hear me out.  Do you eat your own chickens?  I ask this because I know you have a problem with the meat industry and how they treat fowl before they are sent to slaughter.  I wish I could raise my own meat but I would become attached and they would be uncooked meat.  ;)  At least that way I would know they had a really good life before they were deep fried.  I manage to eat chicken by telling myself they were all gawd awful mean roosters previously.  ;)
