About Me

My photo
I am a 42 year old woman that is about as happy and content as one person can be. My husband of 21 years and our 15 year old daughter live on five and a half acres out in the country. We moved from the city four years ago and never looked back. I homeschool our daughter. We also love our animals. Our daughter has a miniature horse and two rabbits. We also have a border collie, two cats (again), two pot belly pigs, four peafowl, three emus, 2 llamas and an undetermined number of chickens, lets just say ohhh about 200. I have many breeds, from layers to fancy chickens. I love poultry shows, I love fowl in general as I have come to find out through having more than just chickens. Chickens will always be my first love though. I do show some of my birds occasionally.

Where Do Your Eggs Come From?

Mosie did an entry yesterday that made me stop and think. Made me think, most people don't realize what goes on when it comes to the eggs they eat.

Go over to her journal and read this entry, it will open your eyes, if you don't already know.

http://journals.aol.com/mosie1944/MYCOUNTRYLIFE/entries/2008/01/31/answering-a-chicken-question/2689?numComment=all

Be sure to look at Helens comment (madcobug) and my comment in the comment section to further your knowledge.

(I know that is a lame looking link. Sorry, I dont know how to make it a link that just says CLICK HERE or whatever.)

Thanks Mosie for that entry. If more people heard and saw this, I would hope they wouldnt buy the store eggs.

**********************

I got flyers from these people that I give out to my egg customers to educate people on where their eggs are coming from. The video you will see here is very sad and very disturbing, but the reason I am posting it is because people need to see just what goes on behind closed doors. Watch it if you can, and spread the word that this is no way for an animal to live.

I want to say, most of this video I agree with, but I am not vegan, and believe that there are great benefits of eating eggs and chicken. We humans just need to learn how to do things RIGHT.

Thanks for posting this hon! Care2 is an organization that often petitions against the inhumane treatment of factory life animals. It's so sad to know people condone this behavior. Anyone that visits your journal can see the beauty and honor these creatures portray. Thanks again for sharing! (Hugs) Indigo

I could only watch part of the video. That is so heartbreaking. I don't believe I could actually run a laying hen house. I have never been inside one and don't think I will ever be. Helen

I agree that something should be done to change the way we get our food.  Keeping animals in such inhumane conditions is sickening.

I believe that this is one of the saddest things I have ever seen.  Something should be done about this!!  It just breaks my heart.

I was a veg for about 10 years & honestly, I often think of going back to it, because FOR ME, I know I eat animals because they taste good & I like the hi protein, but I don't really feel(& this is just for ME) animals should be eaten.  That would take care of a lot of the cruelty.  We are people who like fast, easy, tasty, but that doesn't mean be inhumane.  I saw a video once on baby calfs that had me crying for days.
It is clear you take excellent care of what is yours & treat them so well.

Kelly keeping chickens in those conditions is inhuman ~ I go buy my eggs from the chicken farm where you can see them enjoying their freedom and outdoor life ~ just the way God intended them to live ~ I hope one day those people who keep chickens in those conditions will be banned from ever being able to keep them again for that surely is animal cruelty ~ Ally x

Ok I watched the first one so far...it was HORRIBLE!!  Very sad...I can't see that even being legal!  I will watch the others when I get home from the library with Nikki.

Oh my...I just finished watching the other two!  I am just sick to my stomach as to how this is still LEGAL in our USA!   Shame on those who purchase these eggs and allow these people to profit!  I will only buy the cage free eggs from now on.  I would have never thought these chickens would be treated so badly!

Ok I just read your comment on how cage free sometimes doesn't mean "good" for the chickens either!  Man that makes me feel so bad for chickens.  What kind of life is that!  So now where do we even feel ok about buying our eggs???  Have any ideas~!?  I sure don't want to allow those people who torture animals to profit!~

I stopped by way of Lisa to say Congratulations on your award. I couldn't look at the video's as I viewed something almost Identical not that long ago and It almost broke my heart and made me almost explode with rage and frustration. Good on you for highlighting this issue and I just hope that more gets done to stamp it all out. I refuse to have anything other than free range. Love Pam xx

I guess you know already i didn't watch the videos, I am all too aware of these atrocities.  I don't eat eggs, every once in a blue moon I will have an omelette out but we never have eggs in the house.  I guess this is rather telling that I really don't cook or bake. (LOL).  I have chicken once in a while but I only buy the Springer farms chicken which is endorsed by the Humane Association and another animal organization which I cannot think of right now.  The treatment animals receive makes me sick.  I don't fault anyone for eating meat but I also think if people were aware of the deplorable, inhumane treatment so many receive to make their way to the dinner table they would think twice.  Sorry to go on, this is a subject very close to my heart.  Thanks for bringing it up.

About a year before my mother passed away she told me that she could not eat boughten eggs any more because they made her sick. Thanks for sharing. Wishing you a wonderful week. Blessings, Janie
