About Me

My photo
I am a 42 year old woman that is about as happy and content as one person can be. My husband of 21 years and our 15 year old daughter live on five and a half acres out in the country. We moved from the city four years ago and never looked back. I homeschool our daughter. We also love our animals. Our daughter has a miniature horse and two rabbits. We also have a border collie, two cats (again), two pot belly pigs, four peafowl, three emus, 2 llamas and an undetermined number of chickens, lets just say ohhh about 200. I have many breeds, from layers to fancy chickens. I love poultry shows, I love fowl in general as I have come to find out through having more than just chickens. Chickens will always be my first love though. I do show some of my birds occasionally.

If it were possible, they would just jump right into this picture. This is Mamas favorite picture of Thomas Kincades collection.

Since this is not humanly possible...we have settled on the next best thing. Mama and I have gone over it many times before...but Daddy has been reluctant.

Mama is 64. Daddy is 72. For the most part, they are in great health. Definitely better than Ian or me. That is about to change also, and not at the beginning of the year, but now, today. But that is for later discussion.

They have a house in Columbus that they have rented out since we moved up here in 1984. They will never go back to live there, it would be like going backwards, and I believe that moving forward is always best.

When we first moved to the area we rented in Jonesboro. Clayton County became a cesspool in no time, and is the worst it has ever been even now. So, they moved to a better county. Now, this county is growing by leaps and bounds, and with that has come trash and lesser beings so to speak. It is not going to get better. It never does. So, it is time to move, soon.

Daddy has finally decided to go with this. Within the next year they will sell both houses. They will take the money from this and build a cottage, a cabin out back on our land. They dont want a lot of house, just a sitting room, a bathroom, a kitchen and a bedroom. They say they dont need all that room anymore.

Needless to say, I am happy about this. As much as we hate to face it, our parents are going to need us sooner or later. I dont want them to have financial burden. I want them close, so if anything happens we will be right there. The county above us has the best medical facilities you could ask for. I hope they live forever, but we all know it wont happen. One will go before the other. Neither would really survive alone without the other, and we could be there to help pick up the pieces and help ease the pain of losing someone that you have spent your whole life with. I dont know if that is possible, but it is better than living alone, away from family.

I am just so happy about this news. So we will be checking into zoning, plumbing, driveways...all that. Soon. It will be here before you know it. One to two years passes quicker these days it seems.

Oh it's so great having my hubby's parents living close to us because with them getting older they may need our help sooner then later.  Right now they are actually helping US! lol  My FIL just plowed for us.  It sure was nice.  He loves going out there and doing that.

Your Dad and Willie Nelson.  ;o)   Sounds like a lovely idea.  Their privacy and life, but the warmth and security of family nearby.  -  Barbara

Your dad looks young and pretty cool!!!  How great they are going to be so close to you - that is wonderful.  My mom lives on the other end of the farm, I can't imagine not living so close to her.

Your parents make a good-looking couple.  I know you're thrilled at the thought of having them for neighbors.

This makes me so happy.  They look like sweet people too.  See if you can get your Daddy to play something and put him on here for us to listen too.  I'd enjoy it.  I know others might too.
