About Me

My photo
I am a 42 year old woman that is about as happy and content as one person can be. My husband of 21 years and our 15 year old daughter live on five and a half acres out in the country. We moved from the city four years ago and never looked back. I homeschool our daughter. We also love our animals. Our daughter has a miniature horse and two rabbits. We also have a border collie, two cats (again), two pot belly pigs, four peafowl, three emus, 2 llamas and an undetermined number of chickens, lets just say ohhh about 200. I have many breeds, from layers to fancy chickens. I love poultry shows, I love fowl in general as I have come to find out through having more than just chickens. Chickens will always be my first love though. I do show some of my birds occasionally.

Yesterday Was Cancelled

Photobucket

This is all that got mowed yesterday. I was all set to mow. You know, that frame of mind where you are just ready to cruise around and breathe in the fresh air and get some sunshine. Look off in the distance and just enjoy the view while toodling around. Is that a word? I don't know, but we use it here.

See that last tree going out toward the road? That is where the mower stopped moving. There I sat. I got off and took a look under the tractor itself. The spring had come loose from the pedal you see. I THOUGHT that would be an easy fix. So I plod back to the house and get me some needle nose pliers thinking I am gonna fix it right up. Never mind there was a reason this spring came off. I would just put it back and get back to mowing. I got back out there and stuck my hand underneath to try and find the spot where the spring was supposed to hook back up. I took the needle nose pliers and held on and stretched it, trying to hook it back up. This was not as easy as I thought as the deck was very much limiting my space to work. I couldnt get it hooked, so I gave up. Pouring sweat and itchy from the grass and dirt sticking to my legs and knees I went back in. I called Ian and told him the tale. He tells me there has to be a reason the spring came loose.

Well there was. When he got home last night he saw the REAL problem. The transmission belt had broke and went whipping around under there knocking the spring to the gas pedal loose.

There was no other way but to push it back up to the house, so thats what he did. He got it up onto the pavement...

Dropped the deck...

(I busied myself cleaning the dirt and grass clumped up on the deck while he worked loose the pieces of belt caught up in the pulley wheel)

So now we need to get a belt and he has to find the time to put it on so maybe I can get this place mowed on Saturday and Sunday.

As you can see, I hate to weedwhack...and did not..thus the scraggly grass along the pavement...lol. I want that roll along edger from Lowes...that would be NICE!

So...this gives me every excuse to sit inside and stay cool...do some laundry, putter about in the house..instead of going out in the broiling heat. Its supposed to be brutal today and tomorrow.

Seems we can't even count on machinery sometimes.  I just have to mow a front & a back yard.  Last year went from a gas powered mower to an electric one.  But hauling that 100 ft heavy duty orange cord around, wears me out.  That part is worse than the actual mowing.  Now I want a battery powered mower, that you just plug in and charge up and then take off.  (Hmmmm I wonder how the pioneers did it?  We are so spoiled!)  Linda in WA

Yes I would say you have a good excuse to stay in the cool. I don't mow anymore but I have certainly done my share when I was younger. Paula

I'd be thankful that the thing broke.....

I think that heat is one of the reasons I don't live down south.

Well, maybe there was a reason it broke!  You needed some well deserved rest today!
