About Me

My photo
I am a 42 year old woman that is about as happy and content as one person can be. My husband of 21 years and our 15 year old daughter live on five and a half acres out in the country. We moved from the city four years ago and never looked back. I homeschool our daughter. We also love our animals. Our daughter has a miniature horse and two rabbits. We also have a border collie, two cats (again), two pot belly pigs, four peafowl, three emus, 2 llamas and an undetermined number of chickens, lets just say ohhh about 200. I have many breeds, from layers to fancy chickens. I love poultry shows, I love fowl in general as I have come to find out through having more than just chickens. Chickens will always be my first love though. I do show some of my birds occasionally.

Late Morning Crow

Yesterday morning it started raining around 4:30 am. I went out, umbrella in hand at 6:30 am to pick up the recipe...in the wind and rain. 7 am came...time to let everyone out. I propped open the screen door so Tiny, Blue, and Chanteclear could let themselves out.Still raining. They didnt seem to inclined to go out. I didnt blame them. It rained pretty heavy for three more hours. I took advantage of this and went back to bed. Seemed like great weather for it.

One thing about dark, windy, rainy mornings. You don't see anyone getting up in a hurry, and you sure don't hear any crowing.

As soon as it quit raining...the sun immediately came out. The crowing commenced. So I took my camera out and took video of some crowing. Here is Tiny. His crow is short and cut off sounding. I can just about tell everyones individual crow without looking to see who it is. Everyone has a unique crow.

It clouded back over after only about a half an hour of sunshine..and then the winds started.

I dont know what the winds are around here...but I want one of those weather station thingies. We looked at them last week at Walmart. They have one that tells you the wind speed. I want THAT one! It tells you all kinds of other stuff too, the barometric pressure. Humidity. Temps, all that. Winds at Talking Rock were reported at 40 to 50 miles an hour yesterday. Thats some really fierce wind.

I wanted to apologize to Bill. I didnt mean to bring anyone down by yesterdays post about the murder. I know most times I try to keep this an upbeat happy place..but that hit so close to where I live, I mean it is walking distance.

Here are three of the four guineas enjoying the sudden outburst of sun right after the rain.

I dont have a lot to say today. So I will keep this short and go visit other folks journals today.

Everyone have a wonderful Wednesday. :)

Oh man...I just really want chicken! lol That is so cool that you can tell each one by it's crow.  I would have never guessed that at all.  And I can hear the difference with the one you showed and the other big mouth in the back lol  The one that finishes his crow!  HEHE  Anyway, Hope you have a great day today!  And hope the sun stays out.  OUr sun is out a little here and it's actually warming up nicely out there.  It's 30 now !  I should go outside for a while before the negative temps come hit us!  I hope THAT forecast changes!

That was a wonderful video.  It's the first time I've heard a rooster crow in about 30 years.  Thank You

That Tiny sounded so cute crowing. I bet they all enjoyed that short span of sunshine. Today is sunshiny here but a little chilly with a wind blowing. Helen

I like guineas, they are such different looking birds. My daddy used to sit on the porch and imitate their call.

I'm sorry and surprised anyone was upset about your posting about the murder practically in your own neighborhood.  I enjoyed the rain yesterday even though I felt like I was trapped in a kennel with these two 'wild' cats that never stop running and then there's Katie.  The sun came out pretty.  I had no idea it was that windy.  Dirk said he'd been up in that area where the murder happened, looking for felons before.  I do love your videos.

Do the guineas watch your house? I've always heard they make good watch dogs. We use to hear a rooster crow but we never do anymore. I miss him. Paula

My husband wants some guineas but guess they will lay in the field away from the house and the coyotes get them. :-(  Thanks for sharing. Janie

The world isn't always rainbows and sunshine, as you found out today.  Don't feel you are letting anyone down by writing what is on your mind.

hugs, Bethe

I don't think you need to apologize for what you write in your journal.  It is real life and it hit close to home.  Linda
