About Me

My photo
I am a 42 year old woman that is about as happy and content as one person can be. My husband of 21 years and our 15 year old daughter live on five and a half acres out in the country. We moved from the city four years ago and never looked back. I homeschool our daughter. We also love our animals. Our daughter has a miniature horse and two rabbits. We also have a border collie, two cats (again), two pot belly pigs, four peafowl, three emus, 2 llamas and an undetermined number of chickens, lets just say ohhh about 200. I have many breeds, from layers to fancy chickens. I love poultry shows, I love fowl in general as I have come to find out through having more than just chickens. Chickens will always be my first love though. I do show some of my birds occasionally.

Chick Fever

It is that time of year again. I am getting it. I am getting chick fever!

Tomorrow morning I will be at Tractor Supply when the doors open. I want some layer chicks. Golden Laced Wyandottes to be exact.

Ahhh the patter of little chick feet will be here once again. I can't help myself. I mean besides...I need to replace my poor layers that got eaten...right?

Here is a picture from Feathersite.com of a mother hen (Golden Laced Wyandotte) and her babies.

Thankyou to Feathersite for this picture.

I will be sure to have some pictures of the babies on here sometime tomorrow...I hope. I just love the babies. :)

Have fun peep shopping!!  I just love the picture, how sweet is that.  I may go to our TS this weekend and see if they have any.  Do you remember when they used to dye the chicks for Easter...thankfully I don't see that anymore.  I hate it for animals during holidays, so many people get chicks & rabbits and never think (DUH) they are going to grow up!  Can't wait to see the new arrivals.

Awww, they're so cute.  Colt has started up the incubator.  He wants to raise some chicks from some of his game chickens.

How adorable!  I miss all the critters on the farm.  We had peacocks for many years that our neighbors hated but we lived way out in the country so they stayed pretty close to home and feed.  The male love to go around spreading his feathers for all the chickens.  The only bad thing about peacocks is their nails on cars but daddy had an old truck so if mama wanted peacocks in the country she got 'em!
